Emergency Room Built By Ascension Sacred Heart

Perdido Key Emergency Room

Ascension Sacred Heart will soon open a new freestanding emergency room in the Perdido Key area to serve residents of southwest Escambia County. The roughly 11,000-square-foot facility will provide emergency care for both adults and children. The new emergency room is part of the hospital system's commitment to expanding accessible healthcare in Northwest Florida. Over 40 associates will work at the new care site when it opens.

The facility is located off Sorrento Road near Gulf Beach Highway in Perdido Key. Construction is already well underway, and the emergency room is scheduled to open in early December 2025. A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on December 3, 2025, at nine a.m. at the facility located at 13139 Sorrento Road.

"This addition ensures those who live in southwest Escambia County get the timely and quality healthcare they need," said Will Condon, Sacred Heart Pensacola President and CEO. "With our community growing, it is up to us to meet their medical needs and grow with them."

The emergency room will include a triage area, resuscitation room, and nine treatment spaces. The facility will also feature CT and X-ray technology to provide comprehensive diagnostic services. Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola will operate the emergency room facility along with Studer Family Children's Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart.

Patients who need more advanced care will be connected to trauma care teams at the Pensacola hospital. The Pensacola location has the region's only Level I Trauma Center. This connection ensures that patients can receive the highest level of emergency and trauma care when needed.

Ascension Sacred Heart has built two other freestanding emergency rooms within the last six years. Those facilities are located in Navarre and on Nine Mile Road. The expansion highlights the hospital's commitment to treating patients who need care in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

Sacred Heart has served the Perdido Key community for over 35 years by offering primary care services. In July 2017, the health system built the first health center in the area. That facility offers rehab, imaging, primary care, lab, and specialty care services to local residents.

"Northwest Florida is growing rapidly, and Sacred Heart is constantly exploring ways to meet the needs of our changing community," said Michael Shaw, Ascension Florida Chief Strategy Officer. "Our freestanding ERs are supported by award-winning care available at Sacred Heart Pensacola and will give all those in this area who require emergency care added peace of mind."

Emergency care teams at Ascension Sacred Heart are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for life-threatening and severe illness and injury. The new facility will give residents of southwest Escambia County and the Perdido Key area emergency care closer to home. Patients will have access to quality emergency services without traveling long distances to reach a hospital.
