Gulf Shores Airplane Crash Accident

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will send investigators to the scene of a small plane crash in Gulf Shores.

The single-engine plane went down around 2 p.m. Sunday across the street from the Gulf Shores International Airport.

Grant Brown, with the City of Gulf Shores, told news staff the plane clipped a tree upon landing, spun around and crashed into a vacant lot between Alabama Coastal Community College and the Gulf Shores Tourism Center.

The pilot and his wife were able to evacuate the plane. They were transported to the hospital for treatment.
Brown said because the crash occurred where it did, traffic was not impacted and airport operations continued without interruption.

According to flight tracking service the aircraft is owned by Mark Cunningham from Paris, Texas. The Beechcraft Bonanza had been in route from Texas and left the Paris airport (PRX) at 11:05AM earlier today. The pilot had filed a flight plan direct to Gulf Shores (JKA) airport.

Gulf Shores police and fire and airport management responded. NTSB investigators will arrive Monday.
