While other local institutions like Spanish Fort High School placed well in the top 25 (at #15), Fairhope's impressive standing highlights its continued commitment to rigorous education and college prep. It should be noted that Gulf Shores and Orange Beach operate as 'City School' systems.
While the current list recognizes established educational leaders, the landscape on the Alabama Gulf Coast is evolving rapidly. Newly opened schools and independent city districts in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are introducing state-of-the-art facilities designed to redefine coastal education.
In August 2026, Gulf Shores City Schools celebrated the opening of its brand-new, $157 million, 287,000-square-foot high school campus. This facility features collaborative learning spaces, an engineering lab, a marine biology program, and the Gaylon and Susan McCollough Performing Arts Center.
Meanwhile, Orange Beach City Schools, which also transitioned into an independent city district, continues to expand its academic and career-tech offerings at its state-of-the-art Orange Beach Middle & High School campus on Canal Road.
As these coastal districts settle into their new homes and expand their academic and career-tech offerings, they are positioned for growth. With these resources now active, it will be fascinating to see where these local schools rank as the school year progresses.
