gulf shores event news

The Lower Alabama Young Professionals (LAYP) is bringing back its annual Santa Pub Crawl to The Wharf in Orange Beach. The event, now in its fifth year, raises funds and collects toys for the Baldwin County chapter of Toys for Tots. So if you are ready for "Holiday Cheer" then put on your Christmas Clothes and be at the Wharf on December 7th,

Since its launch, the pub crawl has generated $6,291 and filled seven boxes with donated toys, attracting 200 to 300 participants annually. Organizers say the event has grown into a signature holiday celebration for the group.

“This pub crawl has become the highlight of the year for our organization,” said LAYP Chairman Cory Skipper. “It keeps getting bigger and better.”

The event is open to individuals aged 21 and older, with attendees encouraged to wear festive Santa or holiday-themed costumes. Participating bars and restaurants at The Wharf will offer special holiday drinks, including:

  • Ginny Lane Bar & Grill: Sugar Cookie Martini
  • YoHo Rum & Tacos: Dulce de Leche Martini
  • Villaggio Grille: Apple Pie Martini
  • POUR Smart Bar: Thin Mint Shots, Cinnamon Roll Cocktail
  • Dick’s Last Resort: White Claus Cocktail
  • Kentucky Mist Distillery: Santa’s Secret Stash (Apple Pie Moonshine, Amaretto, Irish Cream)

Additional specials will be announced by:

  • Island Time Daiquiris
  • SanBar
  • Sandshaker
  • Shore Thing Cigars
  • Crush Wine Bar

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.
