Auburn was ranked as the Boom Town for Alabama
For the past few years the City of Foley has held distinction for it's percentage of growth and new businesses. A new report states Auburn is now Alabama's "Boom Town." According to Go Banking Rates, the city on the plains has surpassed other Alabama towns in growth and per capita income.
Using the 5-year 2023 and 2015 U.S. Census American Community Survey, GOBankingRates analyzed cities with total populations between 25,000 and 500,000. (Hawaii’s locations are considered Census Designated Places and weren’t used in this study.) They sourced each city’s total population and per capita income and calculated the eight-year changes (2015-2023) in quantity and percentages to identify the city in each state with the largest population increase.
Auburn was calculated to be the Boom Town for the State of Alabama. The town has experienced a 34.2% population increase between 2015 and 2023. During that same period, residents' per capita income rose by 40.2%. The rise in both population and income is attributed to the growth of academia and new technology businesses.
