Baldwin County Honors Departing Commissioners

Baldwin County, AL. — (GSN) — As the largest county in Alabama by land area, Baldwin County spans approximately 2,027 total square miles—including 1,590 square miles of land—and is home to a population of over 230,000 residents. Navigating the needs of such an expansive and rapidly expanding region requires significant effort, as county commissioners must travel on a regular basis across wide distances to fully understand the complex issues facing their growing communities. Despite the heavy demands of managing regional development, local public officials typically do not receive much reward for their daily duties, serving primarily out of a commitment to their constituents.

Recognizing this dedication, the Baldwin County Commission officially honored outgoing Commissioners Charles "Skip" Gruber, Jeb Ball, and Matt McKenzie as they conclude their terms in public office. Throughout their time on the commission, Gruber, Ball, and McKenzie devoted extensive time and energy to addressing local challenges, providing guidance on key community initiatives, and steering the county through a major period of growth. Their public service has helped lay a strong foundation for the region's continued progress.

As the commission prepares for a new chapter, Commissioner Billie Jo Underwood will continue her service, offering leadership experience and institutional continuity for the governing body. The Baldwin County Commission extended its sincere gratitude to Commissioners Gruber, Ball, and McKenzie for their years of stewardship, acknowledging that their contributions will remain a vital part of the county's history and future advancement.

Looking ahead, incoming Commissioners Richard Cox (District 1), Angelo Fermo (District 2), and John "Tater" Harris (District 4) will join returning Commissioner Billie Jo Underwood (District 3) when they officially take office on November 11, 2026. As they step into their roles, the newly seated commission will be tasked with addressing ongoing infrastructure expansion, guiding sustainable regional growth, and upholding the high standard of dedicated community leadership set by their predecessors.
