Golf Cart Rules In Gulf Shores

In the past year Gulf Shores residents have experienced new golf cart rules and the expansion of permitted golf cart approved areas of access. In recent days the City Council has clarified who will be allowed to drive those carts on the selected roads.

The Gulf Shores City Council voted on Monday, April 13 to approve an update to the City’s Golf Cart Ordinance.

With the approved update, anyone who is legally allowed to drive a vehicle in Alabama may now drive a golf cart or LSV (Low-Speed Vehicle) in permitted areas.

That means:

• 𝐋𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝟏𝟔+ 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐟 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐭.

• 𝟏𝟓-𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫-𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝟐𝟏 𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫.

Previously, only people 18 and older could operate a golf cart or LSV in designated areas.

Police Chief Dan Netemeyer proposed the change due to public input and it aligns with Alabama’s driving laws.
