Rocio Miranda-Garcia Turned Resilience into Recognition

Gulf Shores, Ala. — (GSN) — The Gulf Coast Chamber's Island Spirit Award committee, presented by Bluewater Exteriors, has announced Rocio Miranda-Garcia of De Soto's Seafood Kitchen as the recipient of the June 2026 Island Spirit Award. This prestigious honor is part of the chamber's ongoing tradition of recognizing non-management workers in Coastal Alabama who consistently go above and beyond in their roles.
Miranda-Garcia was selected for the award following nominations that highlighted her outstanding service and dedication to both her customers and the community. A nomination letter described her as an exceptional individual who brings a personal touch to her work, noting that she possesses a unique gift for making customers feel genuinely welcomed as guests.
Beyond her professional contributions, the award committee recognized Miranda-Garcia for her remarkable resilience. Having battled and overcome thyroid cancer, she returned to De Soto's Seafood Kitchen with the same positive attitude and warmth that she has always demonstrated, regardless of the circumstances.
As a winner of the Island Spirit Award, Miranda-Garcia received a prize package that included a cash prize courtesy of Bluewater Exteriors, a custom lapel pin, a keepsake plaque, flowers, and treats from A Specialty Bakery.
The Gulf Coast Chamber continues to accept nominations for the Island Spirit Award, which honors those who provide exceptional hospitality in the Coastal Alabama area. Those interested in nominating an individual can find more information on the Gulf Coast Chamber's website.
