Experience is a key to successful coaches and Elberta has certainly obtained one of the most experienced coaches in the State of Alabama. This week Joel Williams was confirmed as the new head football coach for the Elberta High School football Warriors.

Having finished the 2024 season with a lackluster record, Elberta is bringing in an experienced coach with winning records at many southeastern schools. Though he has said this is his last stop on the coaching carousel.

Elberta opens their season with Williamson, Le Flore and UMS Wright this fall and coach Williams will face the pressure from the start. If Elberta wins any of those game they will show a major improvement over the past season.

Williams is entering his 45th year of coaching and reiterated this will be his last location for the position. In the past Coach Williams has had stints at: T.R Miller, UMS - Wright, Foley, Fairhope, Mountain Brook and even a few colleges.

The school has yet to have a winning season or make the playoffs, but Williams brings history and energy to the table. Williams is known for his energy both on and off the field.

Elberta competes in football Class 5A, Region 1 with Vigor, Williamson, Citronelle, UMS-Wright, B.C. Rain, LeFlore and other southern Alabama powerhouse programs. His season openers will set the tone for the 2025-2026 season.

The new Elberta principal, Dr. Shotts, has announced his support for the new head coach.
