The legendary beach bar has several stages of live music

In the 2025 edition of Southern Living's "The South's Best Beach Bars," the iconic Flora-Bama has been honored with the top spot, reaffirming its status as a beloved Gulf Coast landmark. Located on the Florida-Alabama state line, Flora-Bama has long been a cultural institution, drawing in locals, tourists, and celebrities alike.

Its rich history, dating back to 1964, is intertwined with the region's laid-back beach lifestyle, making it much more than just a bar—it is a destination where memories are made. The venue’s rustic charm, paired with an unparalleled lineup of live music, delicious seafood, and its signature Bushwacker cocktail, sets it apart from the competition. Year after year, its ability to blend tradition with entertainment continues to solidify its reputation as one of the most legendary beach bars in the country.

Gulf Shores Favorites: The Hangout and Pink Pony Pub

Gulf Shores, Alabama, is home to two other esteemed establishments that made Southern Living's 2025 list: The Hangout and Pink Pony Pub.

The Hangout secured the fourth spot, celebrated for its expansive 3-acre venue offering direct beach access, live music, fire pits, and outdoor games. Each spring, it hosts a popular music festival, drawing crowds for both its entertainment and relaxed beachside ambiance.

Pink Pony Pub, ranked ninth, is unmistakable with its vibrant bubblegum-pink exterior adorned with a whimsical pony mural. Established in 1956, this iconic spot has long been a favorite among spring breakers and locals alike. Beyond its lively atmosphere, the pub offers an extensive menu featuring steaks, salads, and crab claws, making it a staple in the Gulf Shores dining scene.
