Foley Has Great Plan For All Those Campaign Signs

Even a losers sign can be of value

Recycling News

Foley officials are reminding residents that campaign signs can now be recycled following the conclusion of the city’s municipal elections. The city is urging residents and candidates to follow collection rules when disposing of the signs. Guidelines include placing the signs in blue city recycling bins after removing any metal posts before collection. Officials say the process helps keep excess election material out of landfills while supporting ongoing recycling efforts.

The Foley city elections were held on August 26, 2025. Although the local election has ended, some runoff elections run through September. Once those campaigns wrap up, signs from across the county are expected to enter the recycling system.

Foley crews will collect the discarded signs during their normal curbside recycling routes. The signs are then taken to the Baldwin County Material Recovery Facility, where they are sorted and processed. Residents who fail to remove metal stakes before collection may face delays in pickup.

Terri Graham, chief executive officer of the Baldwin County Solid Waste Authority, said the recycling program has a broader purpose beyond just cleaning up after elections. “As election season for many campaigns is coming to a close, let’s make a difference and recycle unwanted campaign signs from our local communities,” Graham said. “The Solid Waste Disposal Authority is committed to helping recycle those unwanted signs and make an environmentally friendly impact for Baldwin County.”

The recycling authority is handling signs from across Baldwin County, not just Foley. Graham noted that county-wide participation will help reduce waste after a busy election season. Officials said the program also underscores the importance of proper recycling habits year-round.
