Gulf Shores Steps Up Emergency Preparedness with AED Program

Gulf Shores Area News

Gulf Shores has taken a major step to improve public safety by installing Automated External Defibrillators (AED's) in 22 key locations. This initiative, a collaboration between the city and Gulf Shores Fire Rescue, aims to provide quick help during heart emergencies. The AED's, costing $34,485.66, were approved by the City Council in 2023.

These life-saving devices are now accessible in places where people often gather, like the Gulf Shores City Hall and the Bodenhamer Recreation Center. Nick Russell, an Emergency Medical Services Officer, highlighted the importance of having AED's ready for community use. He emphasized that these devices could save lives by allowing immediate action in emergencies.

AED's are crucial because they can restore a normal heart rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest. Quick use of these devices can greatly increase survival chances. By placing AED's in busy areas, Gulf Shores is ensuring that residents and visitors can quickly respond to cardiac emergencies.

For more details on where to find these AED's, visit the Gulf Shores Fire Department's website or contact Gulf Shores Fire Station 1 at: 251.968.7422.

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.
