Measures Implemented to Ensure Facility and Aviation Safety

Gulf Shores Airport Closure

Gulf Shores, Ala. — (GSN) — Gulf Shores International Airport has announced a temporary suspension of all flight and airfield operations in preparation for the arrival of Hurricane Isaias.

The temporary closure is a proactive safety measure designed to protect passengers, airport staff, general aviation pilots, and facility infrastructure. Operational closure will take effect on 12:00 p.m. CST on Friday, October 9, halting commercial, charter, and general aviation operations until severe weather conditions pass and comprehensive post-storm inspections are completed.

Travelers with scheduled flights or aviation services are strongly encouraged to contact their respective airlines, charter companies, or local flight operators directly for flight status, rebooking procedures, and travel schedules.

Under the direction of Airport Director Jesse Fosnaugh, airport operations and maintenance personnel are actively implementing emergency readiness procedures. These actions include securing aircraft on the apron, anchoring ground support equipment, safeguarding terminal facilities, and maintaining close coordination with local emergency management authorities.

Airfield operations will resume once Hurricane Isaias has safely cleared the region, damage assessments are thoroughly executed, and all movement areas meet federal safety standards. An updated announcement regarding expected reopening timing will be issued following post-storm site evaluations on 10:00 a.m. CST on

Saturday, October 10.
