Gulf Shores will talk about making it legal to drive golf carts on streets in The Retreat at Bon Secour neighborhood at a city council work session on Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. at city hall.

“Cart operations are limited to streets that have a speed limit of 25 miles per hour or less, have been specifically designated as streets where cart operation is allowed, and to the hours between sunrise to 10 p.m. only,” a memo on the agenda states. “Carts must have numerous items of safety equipment, including seat belts and each will be inspected by police personnel prior to authorized operation. Cart-designated streets will be marked with appropriate signage by the Street Department.”

If the council OKS the change at the Nov. 27 regular session, golf carts will be able to drive on Bienville Avenue, Arcadia Street, Serigny Street, Chastain Street and Orleans Street.

During the meeting, the council will also discuss:

  • Awarding a contract to Hagerty Consulting to provide disaster recovery and emergency response services. The cost of the services will be reimbursed by FEMA as long as the cost is 5 percent or less of the total cleanup costs.
  • A liquor license for Fresh Market Seafood on Fort Morgan Road. There will be a public hearing on the license at the Nov. 27 meeting.
  • A third amendment to the 2023 budget noting a $10.5 million increase in revenue and an increase to the general fund expenses of $10.4 million.
