Labor Day marks the changing of a season along the coast

Labor Day was originally founded to celebrate American workers of all skills. It has several meanings for locals along the coast. It has been the official end of the summer beach season, yet is also is the start of Fall Festival season. But today we remember all of the hard working residents that keep our famous family oriented beach community running.
The recent election reminds us of how fortunate we are to have such amazing City Staff Members. The Police and Fire Department are often in the public's eye. But the team members who take care of the dog park, change the bulb on a street light, clean up the beach trash, enforce the city codes and the hundreds of other task the accomplish each day... they deserve the spotlight. Can you imagine being the receptionist at City Hall and being the first person each inquisitive resident or business owner ask questions of?
This Labor Day we celebrate hard working Americans but this year we give a special round of applause to those who keep the city running.
THE HISTORY:
The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883.
By 1894, 23 more states had adopted the holiday, and on June 28, 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed a law making the first Monday in September of each year a national holiday.

With the inventions of robotic, AI and other technologies it is more important that ever to celebrate the US labor force. American labor has raised the nation’s standard of living and contributed to the greatest production the world has ever known and the labor movement has brought us closer to the realization of our traditional ideals of economic and political democracy. It is appropriate, therefore, that the nation pays tribute on Labor Day to the creator of so much of the nation's strength, freedom, and leadership – the American worker.
