Charitable Organizations Celebrated

Gulf Shores, Ala. — (GSN) — Lee Charities hosted its first nonprofit appreciation event on the coast, bringing together organizations from across Baldwin County. The event focused on recognizing the work of nonprofit teams and creating space for connection and encouragement. Leaders said the goal was to support those who serve others daily.

The event was held at CoastAL in Orange Beach. Nonprofit staff and volunteers were invited to attend. The evening featured food, drinks, and networking opportunities. Organizers said it was intended to celebrate service across the county.

More than 60 organizations attended, with over 175 people participating. The room was filled with energy and connection throughout the event. Many attendees represented groups that work behind the scenes, and the night focused on recognizing their impact in the community.

Lee Charities also offered free raffle entries during the event. Prizes included massages, nail services, acupuncture, and local getaways. Organizers said the prizes were meant to provide rest and renewal. A $1,000 blank check raffle was awarded to Family Promise.

The organization announced the recipients of its latest grant cycle:

  • $50,000 to Worship on the Water for a new ministry center
  • $50,000 to the South Baldwin Literacy Council to support a new building
  • $25,000 in unrestricted funding to Foster Kids Matter to expand programming
  • $25,000 to One More Moment for their impactful mental health initiatives

Lee Charities President Mitchell Lee spoke at the event. “Working in a nonprofit is no joke. We are often asked to do more with less, and many take on the struggles of those they serve. Tonight, we were honored to recognize their work,” Lee said.

Director of Community Development Penny Hughey also highlighted several key initiatives designed to strengthen local nonprofits:

  • Leadership Academy – Free training for nonprofit executives
  • Sharing Shed – Access to event equipment like tables, chairs, and tents at no cost
  • Shining the Light – A partnership with Sunny 105.7, providing free radio promotion for local organizations
  • Volunteer Switchboard – Connecting individuals with volunteer opportunities and helping organizations meet their needs

Organizers said this was Lee Charities' first event of its kind. Plans are already underway to make it an annual celebration. The organization said it will continue to support nonprofits. Its mission remains focused on helping people help people.
