Local Radio Personality and Singer Wins Spirit Award

Gulf Shores Music News

You might listen to her middays on Sunny 105.7 or you may listen to her at one of your favorite restaurants in Gulf Shores. Either way, you have probably heard the sounds of Lisa Christian if you live in Gulf Shores. Her smooth, bluesy sound and offbeat charm has kept her a local favorite for nearly twenty years. She is currently recording her newest album and it’s due for release in summer of 2024.

The Coastal Alabama Business Chamber recently got to honor local musician, Sunny 105.7 disc jockey, and troubadour Lisa Christian with the April 2024 Island Spirit Award!

The nomination letter we received for Lisa noted:

"Lisa is a vibrant being that is full of life and she radiates that in everything she does. We met Lisa when she did a live remote broadcast at our grand opening, there were people coming to the store simply because she was there. Since then we have followed her to BINGO at Tacky Jacks every Wednesday, we go because of Lisa.

She is one of those people you just want to be around and makes you feel better about life. The Island is beyond blessed to have someone like Lisa representing our local businesses here. I know we all hear her on the radio but that is not just an act, she is the same person in real life."

The committee was able to pop-in to the Sunny 105.7 studio and surprise Lisa with flowers, a cash prize, the traveling Island Spirit plaque, a plaque to keep, and a copy of the nomination letter.

The Island Spirit Award is one of our Chamber's longest running traditions to honor individuals that go above and beyond for those they serve.

They are always looking for nominations of non-management workers who have made an impact, rather they be an employee, friend, or someone you encounter while enjoying our Coastal Alabama area.

If you know someone worthy of this award, let them know by filling out the form  HERE

That special time of the year has arrived where beachgoers share the sand with turtles that nest and lay up to 100 eggs per clutch along the beach. The annual nesting season for many of thee sea turtles has been happening long before some of the people ever frolicked amongst the waves. The average life span of most sea turtles is 50 to 100 years and they often return to their place of birth to deposit eggs for the next generation.

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.
