Local Restaurants Open or Offering To-Go Holiday Meals

Tired of slaving over the stove this holiday season? Fear not, weary chefs, for the Alabama Gulf Coast is brimming with delicious options to satisfy your festive cravings. From traditional Christmas feasts to heat-and-eat comfort food, countless restaurants are keeping their doors open to ensure a stress-free holiday dining experience.


So, whether you're seeking a lively Christmas Eve gathering or a cozy Christmas Day dinner, the Gulf Coast has something to tempt your taste buds and warm your heart this holiday season.

 

HANGOUT HOSPITALITY GROUP

The Hangout, Sunliner Diner and The Gulf will be open on Christmas Eve while Picnic Beach closes at 3 p.m. Christmas Eve. All properties will be closed on Christmas except for Sunliner Diner. Zeke’s Restaurant is planning a special menu for New Year’s Eve.


FLORA-BAMA LOUNGE AND OYSTER BAR
B
e a part of a longstanding Christmas Day traditional potluck dinner at the iconic Flora-Bama. Bring a side dish to feed 10-12 and the Bama will provide the ham and turkey with serving starting at 1 p.m. on Christmas Day. 


THE MEAT MART
The Meat Mart is serving up its array of classic holiday casseroles including sweet potato, mac and cheese, green bean and cornbread dressing. Pair that with a spiral-cut ham or any of a large variety of butcher-shop quality meats offered by the Beard family. Call ahead for availability and any specials at 251-981-6328.


ROUSES MARKET
Rouses will be offering various holiday trays including desserts, cheeses, finger sandwiches, mini poboys and even boudin ball trays. The deli also has several heat-and-eat casseroles and other dishes for holiday parties and Christmas dinner. 

 

DOC’S SEAFOOD SHACK AND OYSTER BAR

DOC’S SEAFOOD AND STEAKS

These sister restaurants will open at noon on Christmas Day and will be serving from their regular menus.

 

BUBBA’S SEAFOOD HOUSE

Bubba’s will be open Christmas Eve and Christmas with a special menu offering New York strip, a seafood tower with crab legs, shrimp, grilled oysters, mussels and Conecuh sausage. The royal reindeer is a grouper filet fried and topped with Hollandaise, a skewer of shrimp and sprinkled with lump crab meat. Three appetizers include shrimp queso and specialty drinks will be a Grinch Hopper Bushwacker and a Salty Santa with vodka, Irish cream, caramel drizzled glass and a sea salted rim.

 

THE PANTRY

The specialty grocery store is taking orders for chef-prepared charcuterie boards for holiday parties. Orders must be placed 24 hours in advance by calling 251-981-2988.

 

WOLF BAY LODGE

This long-time favorite restaurant’s locations in Foley and Orange Beach will be closed on Christmas Day but the Orange Beach location is offering to-go meals daily during the off season. For $35 and feeding four to six people, it comes with a choice of entrée among shrimp and grits, chicken or plain Alfredo, beef medallions with mushroom gravy, country fried steaks and white gravy, chicken tenders, chicken Parmesan and a soup of the day. All meals come with a choice of house salad or Caesar salad and bread and individual sides of mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, rice pilaf, veggies, baked potato or French fries for $12 for a quart.


OSO AT BEAR POINT HARBOR
Anyone in need is invited to come by OSO on Christmas Eve for a free meal all day long. 


BOLO STEAKS AND SEAFOOD

On Christmas Eve, this new addition to the beach restaurant scene will have a special dinner with a choice of three appetizers and three entrées including duck confit, beef Wellington or trout Almondine and two desserts for $60 per person. 

 

Big Fish Restaurant and Bar will close Dec. 17-26 and will reopen on Dec. 27, LuLu's Gulf Shores will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, De Soto’s Seafood Kitchen will be closed Dec. 16-25 for maintenance and repairs and Duck’s Diner will be closed on Christmas Day. COASTAL in Orange Beach will be closed Christmas day.

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.

It’s Saturday morning, the second day of the 6A Section 1 Track Meet at Saraland High School. Coach Brewer has piloted the Dolphins bus to this place several times this season, but today a thick, milky fog has engulfed the panorama, limiting the vision of what’s ahead, save for head coach Jason Hill. He’s studied today’s upcoming events and is hopeful for the upset.

A decorated urn containing human ashes washed up on Gulf Shores beach this past week, starting a mystery that local police have now solved. The container was discovered by people walking along the shore on West Beach on April 17. The urn had no name or identification on the outside.
