Orange Beach, Ala. – (GSN) – It’ll be a busy week in post-season play for at least three Orange Beach Makos spring sports teams. Two teams – baseball and girls' soccer – will play state tournament games, with baseball at home and girls' soccer on the road. The Lady Makos softball powerhouse will be the host team for its area tournament as the team looks to start the road to its sixth straight state championship.

Soccer is up first with a trip to New Brockton today, April 28, for the first round of the Class 4A girls state tournament with a start time of 5:30 p.m. Friday will be a busy day at the Sportsplex as baseball will be taking on Bibb County in a three-game series with two games May 1 at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., with a third deciding game at 1 p.m. on May 2, if necessary.

The Lady Makos soccer team tied for its area regular-season championship but lost a coin flip to St. Luke’s and had to travel for the first round as the area runner-up. With a win at New Brockton, Orange Beach will advance to the second round to take on either St. James or American Christian Academy. Home status for second-round games will be determined after first-round play is complete.

The baseball Makos are fresh off an April 24 first-round series where Orange Beach handily downed Jackson 12-0 in game one and 20-1 in game two. Bibb County beat perennial state baseball power Tallassee in three games to advance, and now the Choctaws will make the 2-plus-hour trip to Orange Beach for round two.

Adjacent to the baseball field, softball action starts at 10 a.m. as Satsuma and St. Michael’s square off at 10 a.m. in the three-team, double-elimination Class 4A Area 1 tournament. Orange Beach will face the winner at 1 p.m. Play will continue on Friday until two teams have two losses and an area tournament champion is crowned. 

Softball finished up its season with an impressive run through the Hoover tournament, where the Lady Makos won their games by a combined score of 75-6, including an April 25 win over Central-Phoenix City, 16-1, in three innings.

Orange Beach has won a state championship every year it has fielded a team since 2021, including two Class 2A titles and three Class 4A titles. No Alabama high school softball teams have won six in a row, and perennial power Pisgah is the only team to win five as well in 2001-05.
