Coffee Shops offer great Hot Chocolate choices

Coffee shops in Gulf Shores

There is still a chill in the breeze on the beach. We are ready to wear shorts and flip-flops. But we have to wait a few more weeks to enjoy warm weather. So, in honor of National Hot Chocolate Day, we can visit our favorite coffee shop and get a hot cup of an American treat.

Around 500 B.C., the Ancient Mayans drank chocolate made from crushed cocoa seeds mixed in water and chili peppers. In 1961, popular hot chocolate manufacturer Swiss Miss started selling its first powdered hot chocolate that could be mixed with water instead of milk.

Now you can get a gourmet cup of this sweet and comforting beverage at your local coffee shop!

It's good for you, Yes, chocolate contains many vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and biochemical compounds—all of which help give our body a satisfying health boost. Hot chocolate even increases the microcirculation in your skin. Who knew a hot chocolate obsession could be so good for our health?

It boosts your mood. When we drink hot chocolate, its chemical compounds signal the brain to release endorphins and serotonin, which elicit our feelings of calmness. These neurotransmitters work to reduce pain and stress, keeping us worry-free and happy! Hot chocolate is clearly happiness in a cup.

So lets get one last cup of hot chocolate... or coffee if we must, and wave goodbye to a cold winter.
