Award winning park needs your vote on USA Today

outdoor news in Gulf Shores

The Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach is once again in the running for a national award. It is part of USA TODAY's 10Best Readers' Choice contest.

The trail is currently in 2nd place out of 20 top recreational trails across the country. Last year, it earned the top spot as the Best Recreational Trail in the same contest.

Voters can help the trail return to number one by casting daily votes online for one more week, through Monday, April 7, 2025. You can

The Park features 29 miles of paved trails or boardwalks that inspire visitors to explore the nine distinct ecosystems within park boundaries. These trails are also included as part of the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail system that connect Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, Alabama. Enjoy the serenity of Gulf Oak Ridge trail, as you stroll underneath Live Oak trees draped in Spanish Moss. Take a bike ride on Rosemary Dunes and be on the look out for the elusive Bobcat. If you're hoping to see an Alligator, explore Gopher Tortoise trail along the edge of Lake Shelby! The majority of our trails are suitable for walking, running, and biking. You are sure to enjoy the stunning natural scenery only found on the Alabama Gulf Coast!
