School Earns 99 on State Report Card Score

Gulf Shores Area School News

Orange Beach Elementary School has been recognized as one of the top 25 schools in Alabama for its strong academic performance and growth. The honor comes from the Legislative School Performance Recognition Program, a statewide effort that showcases top public schools. As part of Orange Beach City Schools, the school has gained a reputation for high standards and consistent progress. District leaders say the award reflects the ongoing dedication of students, teachers, and families.

The Alabama State Board of Education formally recognized this honor on February 12, 2026, during its meeting at the Gordon Persons Auditorium in Montgomery. The recognition relates to the 2024–2025 school year and the state's grading period for that year.

Orange Beach Elementary School earned a 99 on the State Report Card, establishing it among the top-performing elementary schools in Alabama. The high score helped secure its place among the Top 25 schools in the Legislative School Performance Recognition Program. This program, conducted annually by the Alabama State Department of Education, highlights schools that perform exceptionally well or demonstrate significant progress.

Under the program, schools can be recognized in one of two categories. High-performance schools rank within the top 25 percent of public schools according to the state school grading system. Exemplary Progress schools improve their overall annual ranking by at least one letter grade on the state report card.

Each year, the top 25 schools in the High-Performance and Exemplary Progress categories receive public recognition and a monetary award. Orange Beach Elementary earned this distinction based on its performance in the 2024–2025 state grading system. Officials say the award highlights both the school's current achievements and its ongoing pursuit of excellence.

Principal Dr. Mary Catherine Law credited students, teachers, and families for the achievement. “Our students work hard every day, our teachers are passionate about instruction, and our families are engaged partners in education,” Law said. “We are honored to be recognized among the top schools in our state.”

District leaders say the recognition adds to a growing record of success for Orange Beach Elementary School. The school has emphasized high academic standards, steady improvement, and strong partnerships with families. Orange Beach City Schools praised the dedication of students and staff who “commit to excellence every day.”
