Orange Beach will discuss spending nearly $800,000 on the renovations and a new pool at the city’s recreation campus. The work will include design services to develop construction plans, permitting services, bidding assistance, and other construction-related services. This is the first step in the project.

The city council will meet in a joint regular/work session on Jan. 20 at 5 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall.

Lose of Tennessee is being considered for the $781,700 contract. It is on the work session agenda and will not be voted on until the next regular session. 

During the regular session, the council will discuss:

• Spending $1.3 million for goods and services from Jan. 8-21.
• Approving a liquor license for the Beach Bun going into the old Chronic Tacos space. 
• Authorizing a contract with Wetland Sciences to develop the city’s portion of the beach mouse habitat conservation plan for $53,100.
•  Amending a grant award from the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council to complete the expansion of the Orange Beach Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education program.
• Appointing a committee for AMERICA250AL to help the city and state celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
• Authorize a contract with Sawgrass Consulting for civil engineering and land surveying services. The council will then discuss a contract with Sawgrass to do a property survey on the site for the proposed civic center. It will be located on city property in the south side of Canal Road near the roundabout.
• Purchasing a Ventrac 4520P tractor for Public Works for $39,794 and a Kubota track loader for $109,031.
• Purchasing for Public Works a Kawasaki tractor for $39,794, a Kubota track loader for $109,031, two Kubota utility vehicles for $43,744, a Kenworth dump truck for $205,000 and a leaf vacuum for $79,239.
• Purchasing for Coastal Resources a Ford F-350 super crew four-wheel drive truck for $68,532 and a Chevy Silverado crew cab four-wheel drive pickup for $43,856.
• Purchasing two firetrucks for $2 million.
• A contract with GeoCon Engineering & Materials Testing to provide geotechnical testing and engineering services for the new pickleball courts for $9,000.

During the work session, the council will discuss:

• Appointing a member to the Orange Beach Board of Education. Those applying include Timothy Bowling, Taylor Brown, Leanne Collins, Tina D’Aversa, Sue Dale, Neeli Faulkner, Kendall Hoffman, Stephen Lewis, Ryan Long, Annette Mitchell, Carrie Morris, Angela Mott, Jason Neel, Drew Parker, Clay Tindal, Ashley Wade and Mallory Wilkins.
• Appointing a police chief.
• A sponsorship request from The Wharf for an Independence Day celebration.
• Buying four vehicles for the police department for $180,800, including two 2026 Ram 1500 crew cab trucks for $44,985 apiece and two 2026 Ram 2500 four-by-four pickups for $45,415 apiece.
• Buying ammunition for the police department for $31,844 to cover all training and duty needs for 2026.
• Authorizing the purchase of two cardiac monitors/defibrillators for the fire department for $122,904 and two LUCAS chest compression systems for $41,537.
• Buying a 2026 Ford F-350 super cab four-wheel drive pickup for $65,010 to replace a 1993 brush truck. A brush skid will be purchased and attached to the pickup bed.
• Purchasing three Kubota utility vehicles for the Sportsplex for $48,886 or $16,295 each.
• Authorizing the surplus and trade-in of 24 golf carts for the Golf Center and buying 28 golf carts for $150,544.
• Authorizing a $69,883 contract with Thompson Engineering to design additional work needed for the Canal Road multi-use trail connectivity projects. It will cover the cost of additional construction inspection and administrative services.
• Declaring some items owned as surplus and authorizing their disposal. Items include 18 court benches, office furniture and miscellaneous hardware supplies.
• A resolution for a contract with RaptorMed.com for medical records software for the Orange Beach Wildlife Center.
• A contract with Motorola Services for maintenance and support of equipment for the police department.
• An amendment to an agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture for nuisance wildlife control services and upping the fee to $12,000 for the term through Jan. 1, 2027.
• A contract with Sally Wyrick for water aerobics instruction at the Aquatic Center.
• Authorizing an agreement with Kone for elevator maintenance at the Coastal Resources office.
