Former Church to transform into hotel

Orange Beach Building News

The Orange Beach Planning Commission will consider several development requests during its meeting this evening. These include a rezoning proposal to convert a former Baptist church into a 100-room hotel. Also, Rodney Jones is seeking to rezone 7.9 acres from single-family residential to planned unit development (PUD) and plans to build 18 single-family homes and 10 duplexes on the site. Homes will be deeded, and HOA rules will allow for rentals.

The commission will take up the request at its Oct. 13 meetings with a work session at 3 p.m. and the regular session at 4 p.m. in council chambers at city hall.

During the meeting, the commission will also discuss:

  • A request from Charles and Amy Allen to combine two lots into one at 26750 Moses Road in a neighborhood south of Marina Road and west of Tacky Jack’s.
  • A request for final approval to subdivide about three acres at 28633 Sampson Avenue into six lots for single-family residences called Water’s Edge.
  • Replatting lots of a storage business into one lot for U-Own-It Boat and RV Storage at 4387 Willam Silvers Parkway.
  • Granting a 12-month extension for Oak Shores preliminary subdivision approval for a subdivision north of Canal Road and west of Sampson Avenue. Plans call for a 76-home development. This item didn’t meet the second deadline to be considered in this meeting and will be deferred to a later meeting.
