Program runs from late May to early August

Summer Jobs for Youth

Teens in Orange Beach have a new opportunity to earn money and gain real work experience this summer. The City of Orange Beach is accepting applications for its Summer Youth Work Program for local students aged 14-15. The program provides young people with a chance to develop job skills while school is out. City officials say the jobs are designed to help teens become more confident and responsible.

Applications for the Summer Youth Work Program are being accepted until Friday, March 13. Selected students must be available to work from May 26 through August 1. The program is open to both traditional high school students and home-schooled students.

To qualify, applicants must be current students in good standing at their school. They must also have a valid work permit before starting their jobs. Only teens aged 14 or 15 are eligible for the positions. City staff says this helps ensure the program remains focused on early work experience for younger teens.

Summer Youth Program Workers support various city departments during the busy tourist season. Teens may help with landscaping around public buildings and parks. Other tasks might include wildlife and beach support, managing concession stands, performing clerical duties at city offices, or taking part in trail and beach clean-up. These roles can involve both indoor and outdoor activities, depending on each department's needs.

City leaders state the program provides a safe, supportive environment where teens can learn to follow schedules, work as part of a team, and engage with the public. The jobs also give young workers an opportunity to explore different types of work they might want to pursue later in life. Parents often view the program as a helpful first step into the workplace for their children.
