Panama City Police Take A Cue From Gulf Shores " Can No Longer Be A Spring Break Town"

PCB Police Chief says its time to end allowing rowdy spring breakers

Gulf Shores Spring Break Rule

Panama City Beach has long had a reputation as the spot for collegiate spring breakers. MTV even hosted a show from the location for years. But now the fun has turned to mayhem and the Police Chief says it is time for the annual pilgrimage to end.

Chief J.R. Talamantez wrote a strong message on the department's Facebook page: "Panama City Beach can no longer be a Spring Break town. That time is over. Every year we try to manage it, and every year it brings more challenges." He also added " I’m not willing to risk the safety of our city to hold onto something that no longer works."

Gulf Shores and Orange Beach came to that same conclusion in 2016 and implemented rules which included no drinking on the beach during spring break season.

The Panama City News Herald stated the statement comes on the heels of a chaotic spring break season on the beach. While the season is still winding down, the area has seen shootings and disorderly crowds. Officers reportedly seized firearms and illegal drugs at the gatherings.

Other popular spring break destinations have also 'broken up' with the rowdy large crowds. Miami Beach has even launched a well produced television ad informing the breakers of the resident's desire to end the problem.

It may have taken a few years to prove the local city councils were wise in their spring break laws, but they have been vindicated with other beach towns now following their standards. The calm families and well-behaved students have begun selecting safety since the white sands and emerald waters are the same.
