A long time tradition takes center stage

Gulf Shores Event News

The Singing for Scholarships event is one of the highlights of the Annual National Shrimp Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama. This competition, which began in 2013, aims to support and showcase the musical talents of Baldwin County high school students. Each high school in the county is allowed to select one student to represent them in the competition, which includes public, private, and homeschooled students.

Scheduled for October 12, 2024, at 10:00am, during the 51st Annual National Shrimp Festival, this event offers students a chance to win scholarships for themselves and their schools. Students must currently be enrolled in the 9th through the 12th grades for the 2024-2025 school year. The scholarships awarded are $1,000 for the first-place winner, $500 for second place, and $250 for third place, with each winner's school also receiving a monetary award.

The Annual National Shrimp Festival itself is a long-standing event that began in 1971 and has grown into a multi-day celebration featuring food, art, and music, drawing crowds from across the region. Over the years, the Annual National Shrimp Festival through its Singing for Scholarships program has awarded over $40,000 to local students and schools, underscoring its commitment to fostering young talent.
