Foley, Ala. — (GSN) — Foley Main Street has officially invited the community to play a direct role in the future of the city’s historic heart with the launch of its new "Friends of Downtown Foley" program. This initiative is designed to turn the growing momentum of the downtown district into a sustainable community movement, focusing on the integration of art, music, and vibrant public spaces.

While Foley is widely recognized as a gateway to the coast—located just a few miles from the pristine white-sand beaches of the Gulf—the city has rapidly evolved into a destination in its own right. With a population that now surpasses that of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach combined, Foley has established itself as a bustling hub of community life and rapid growth in Baldwin County.

"Foley Main Street is on a mission to make our downtown a vibrant and welcoming destination in the region," said Wes Abrams, President of the Foley Main Street Community Foundation. "But to do that, we need more than just plans—we need a family. This program isn't just about a donation; it’s about becoming part of the heartbeat of our town".

The "Friends of Downtown Foley" program seeks to fund high-impact projects that enhance the safety and aesthetic appeal of the historic district, including:

  • Artistic Crosswalks & Murals: Fusing safety with local creativity to add vibrant color to the streets.
  • Enhanced Community Spaces: Developing gathering spots to foster neighborly connections.
  • Public Art Installations: Turning corners of the district into areas for discovery.
  • Live Music: Investing in performances to fill the streets with local talent.

Contributions to the Foundation are tax-deductible, and donors receive the unique opportunity to vote on future projects, ensuring the community has a voice in shaping the downtown area. The Foundation has already successfully injected over $154,000 in grant capital into the local economy, demonstrating a proven track record of improving crosswalks, murals, and small business support.

Residents and supporters interested in participating can join the movement by visiting the Foley Main Street website or contacting Executive Director Darrelyn Dunmore at 251-270-0089. By supporting this initiative, donors are not just funding infrastructure; they are helping to build a more vibrant, sustainable, and connected future for the heart of Foley.
