Gulf Shores, Ala. – (GSN) – Gulf Shores is seeking a grant to help the city celebrate the America250 Alabama Initiative. The state money would be for “community programming and historical engagement” to help celebrate the Declaration of Independence’s 1776 enactment.

The city council will consider the application at a committee of the whole session on June 15 in council chambers at City Hall at 4 p.m.

The Gulf Shores Museum will use the grant to enhance an exhibit commemorating the anniversary.

“The Gulf Shores Museum is developing an America250 exhibit highlighting how the evolution of trade in our area has directly shaped the community’s growth, culture, and economic development,” a memo from Managing Librarian Deanne Fincher states. “The proposed grant-funded activities will complement this exhibit by expanding public engagement and educational opportunities related to the region’s historical trade patterns. The new exhibit will include the necessary exhibit components and materials to support its design, interpretation, and public presentation.”

City Museum Administrator Christie Shannon led the effort to find and apply for the grant, the memo states.

During the work session, the council will also discuss:

  • Hiring Civil Southeast for $51,500 for design and engineering services for the 2026 streets resurfacing program. The program has a total budget of $2.1 million for 2026.

  • Franchise agreements for personal training services for Amanda Bradshaw for Iron and Flow and Flavio Cajueiro for Cajueiro Fitness.
