Shark Week at Gulf State Park

Gulf Shores, Ala. — (GSN) —  Shark Week is a national television phenomenon but locally it is a time to educate  the public about the real facts concerning the ultimate aquatic predator. In the summer of 1975 the nation watched a movie that scared every Chamber of Commerce in a beach community. Much like in the movie 'Jaws', the thought of sharks have been on tourists minds and beach towns have to repeatedly publish the facts.

Gulf State Park is bringing back Shark Fest, one of its most popular summer events. The three-day festival focuses on marine life, with an emphasis on Gulf Coast sharks. It will be held at the park's Saltwater Pier in Gulf Shores. Organizers are encouraging families to register and book their stays early.

Shark Fest 2026 will run from Thursday, June 25, through Saturday, June 27. The three days of events feature hands-on exhibits and expert talks on sharks. Those who register in advance will receive free parking throughout the event.

Highlights include live shark dissections and presentations by marine researchers. Visitors can see shark teeth and bones up close and learn about the many shark species found in nearby Gulf waters. The exhibits are designed to be educational and entertaining for all ages.

One of the most popular attractions is the stingray touch tank, where children can interact with marine life in a safe, supervised setting. Younger kids can also enjoy crafts, face painting, and scheduled activities throughout the event.

The festival is held at Gulf State Park's Saltwater Pier, 20800 East Beach Boulevard, in Gulf Shores. The waterfront location provides visitors with easy access to the Gulf of Mexico. The park is well known for its outdoor recreation and natural scenery.

Registration is now open for both camping and the festival. Those wishing to camp can book a site at
reserve.alapark.com/gulf. Festival registration is available at reserve.alapark.com/register/shark-fest-2026. Organizers say additional details will be shared on social media in the coming weeks.
