Celebrating a life and benefitting seatbelt safety

gulf shores event news

The Garner C. Tampary Memorial Foundation and the City of Orange Beach will bring back the Merry Memories Tinsel Trail for its second year at Orange Beach Waterfront Park this holiday season. The event aims to foster holiday cheer and community spirit.

The foundation is dedicated to seatbelt safety after a tragic accident took place in the community. Garner was taking a friend home from a concert, but neither one ever made it home. They weren't wearing their seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle. The foundation's mission is to advocate for seatbelt safety and to remind people not to drive distracted. Had Garner and Sonny been wearing their seatbelts, their chances of survival would have been greatly increased.

Seat belts reduce the risk of fatal injury by 45% in a passenger car and 60% in a pickup truck.

The Tinsel Trail will open on Friday, November 29, and the decorated trees will remain on display until Christmas Day. Businesses, groups, and families are invited to participate by reserving and decorating one of the live Christmas trees.

Each tree costs $350, with all proceeds going to support the Christian Service Center. Those interested in taking part should register by November 23, and tree decoration will take place from November 23 to November 29.
