Snow One Year Ago Made Gulf Coast History
Gulf Shores News Staff • January 21, 2026
Historic snowfall one tear ago, could it happen again?
Today the weather professionals are speaking of an event that could bring snow to the State of Alabama. Forecasters do not predict that it will be at the beach but it evokes memories of the snow storm which occurred last year at this time.
Gulf Shores and surrounding coastal areas received significant snowfall, with reports of nearly 9 inches turning the beach into a "winter wonderland". January 20 to 22nd locals saw the historic storm hit the beach. Many frolicked and took photos along the beach during the first hours. As the temperatures stayed in single digits, the novelty began to lower and residents realized the snow might be in the area for more than a day.
The official accumulation broke a 130-year-old record from 1895.
Winter Storm Enzo (as meteorologists referred to it), made headlines in 2025. Locals are used to dealing with named storms but not during the winter season.
One year later residents might become a bit nervous with recent weather predictions but the snow is not forecasted to be in the coastal community. Though it does give us a chance to remember last year and post some great memories.
