The City of Gulf Shores host several sporting events on it's beaches and within the grounds of the Gulf Shores Sportsplex. Championships such as NCAA Volleyball and the Alabama Track & Field competition have drawn tens of thousand of visitors over the years.

In 2024 sports tourism generated $80.4 million in economic impact for Alabama's Beaches (Gulf Shores and Orange Beach) from 123 events. Many of these events occur during the non-summer months, providing the area with better year-round revenue streams. The Gulf Shores Sportsplex is an official STMA Environmentally Responsible Certified Facility. The Gulf Shores Sportsplex is the first facility in Alabama with this certification.

The City of Gulf Shores, Baldwin County and ALDOT are now working om better ingress and egress to the facilities via Oak Road West. Locals may have noticed workers at the entrance to the road from Hwy. 59 as the first on several changes begin.

Local officials have encouraged patience and slower speeds as upgrades to the area are implemented.

The Sportsplex is now home to the new pickleball courts and Gulf Coast Sports Center. Providing more services to Gulf Shores residents, these additions have enhanced the athletic facilities available for public use.
