Mud, Music & Memories

Orange Beach, Ala. — (GSN) — Whether you’re a local hunting for something fresh or a visitor eager to make the most of your beach holiday, you’ve come to the right place. This week’s lineup is full of adventures that make the Alabama Gulf Coast unforgettable–hands-on animal encounters, free family fun under the stars, secret local spots, favorite hometown eateries, sweet strolls through the town center, legendary celebrations, and inspiring stage performances to wrap it all up. So grab your calendar, gather your favorite people, and let’s dive into another week of What’s Up & What’s Good–because here, the only thing that stays the same is how difficult it is to decide what to do first.
Monday, July 27th-
As many already know, the Alabama Gulf Coast offers the best of both worlds — from sandy shores and paved trails to hikes that spark curiosity and muddy adventures. The chances of feeling mundane or not finding an experience to match everyone in the family’s needs are slim here. That’s why staying informed and checking in with us regularly is essential for both visitors and locals, as you never know what extraordinary adventure awaits. This Monday through Friday, sign up your kids aged 9-13 for Animal Day Camp. Hosted at the Coastal Cat Sanctuary, where play, a love for animals, education, and a bit of muddy fun are on the agenda. This week-long program includes sessions that provide hands-on learning and enjoyment, featuring not just cats but also pups, horses, fish, and more. Children will gain insight into caring for these animals, such as brushing horses, exploring aquatic life, and discovering plants and ecosystems on guided hikes. They will leave with a sense of confidence, connection, and perhaps even a clear idea of their future career and purpose, all while having an unforgettable experience as a Gulf Coast camper. There will also be engaging peer activities, crafts, movies, and a few surprises. You can register via the email below. The cost is $400 for the week, including lunch — a great value for the lessons learned. And again, who knows, they might come away knowing exactly what their future holds after these up-close adventures where education, nature, and play come together for a week of memorable thrills.

If you're here for the week or a local who hasn’t made it out for Sunset Sounds at Portside this summer season, you're in luck! Join others for the final evening of this harmonious community event and other spectacular FREE entertainment. This fun event is perfect for the whole family, held at Portside on Main. Families can bring their own chairs, blankets, picnics, or all three, and choose their spot for the evening. The outdoor stage opens up to a large green space, surrounded by specialty apparel shops and more, including places to dine and enjoy a beverage like Tee-Off or indulge in sweet treats like warm gooey cookies or a refreshing cone of ice cream. It’s a safe, somewhat enclosed space for kids to roam while adults relax. In front of and on either side of the stage, you’ll find open areas for free games such as oversized chess, giant Jenga, cornhole, and a few booths charging $5-$10, including face painting, a trip on the reptile bus, and other activities. Kids’ activities start around 5:30PM and run until 8:30PM, after which families can stroll over to Main Street for the SPECTRA Laser Light Experience at 8:30, 9:00, and 9:30PM. Don’t miss this last chance to enjoy tunes under the sun, cotton candy sunsets, and a night under the stars—all in one spectacular evening. Live music begins with The Destinations starting at 5:30PM.

Nobody does late, late nights like the Undertow in Orange Beach, where everyone is welcome, and no dress code is required. At this local pub, you’ll find all types of barflies, from corporate locals to service industry regulars, visitors, and the occasional party bus drop-offs. The music gets lively starting at 10PM and continues with its strumming right through until 2AM with Saucy FuzZ this Wednesday. This isn’t your typical coastal bar; you’ll find pool tables, screen games, a dance floor, outdoor patio space, and even a kitchen serving greasy snacks to soak up all the fun you’ll be having. Drop by, plan to have a great time, and see another side of OB that not everyone gets to enjoy while on holiday—meet some locals and create unforgettable memories if you dare.
Thursday, July 30th-
Make it a lunch to remember with Zaxby’s in Gulf Shores, where you can dine in or get your fill quickly with takeout. Who doesn’t love a good piece of chicken, especially if it’s battered and fried to perfection and served with a signature or your choice of sauce, like the chicken finger baskets at Zaxby’s? Get that restaurant quality only this time without the wait, the price, and always full of flavor. This summer, they’ve added some specials to the menu, such as Caribbean jerk chicken options—either between the bun or fried and ready for dipping. Not into fried? No problem—Zaxby’s offers a wide range of healthy grilled options, from salads aka zalads to sandwiches and more. We recommend trying the sweet tea for a full southern-style experience, where the ice comes in small round bits for your enjoyment. Check out the cheesy fries—you’ll definitely need a fork for those—or go for the Wings and Thangs selection of tasty delights. Don’t forget to ask about dessert. Make your lunch count this week and visit this family-owned Zaxby’s right in the heart of Gulf Shores.
Friday, July 31st-
