World Sea Turtle Day Celebration Coming to Foley

Families, children, book lovers, and turtle enthusiasts are invited to a special celebration for World Sea Turtle Day and the end of the school year. The event will take place at Baumhower’s Victory Grill in the Tanger Outlet Mall in Foley. International children’s author Linda B. Schmitz Spangrud will host the gathering. Guests can enjoy activities, food specials, and book signings during the event.

The celebration happens on Friday, May 23, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. Turtle-themed fun will include a scavenger hunt, turtle balloons, and sticker giveaways. There will also be discounts on books and food specials such as “Inflation Bites” and “Halftime Specials.”

Spangrud will sign copies of her books, including her newest title,
Young Jack and the Turtle People. She is a strong supporter of environmental protection, especially the preservation of sea turtles and beach habitats. She believes everyone can help build a better future by working together.

Volunteers from the Share the Beach Sea Turtle Program will be honored at the event. Those wearing their green volunteer shirts will receive a special food coupon in thanks for their service. Share the Beach is a project of the Alabama Coastal Foundation.

Spangrud, a retired educator from Illinois, has worked as a teacher, principal, and administrator. After moving to the Alabama Gulf Coast with her husband Tom in 2006, they both joined the Share the Beach program. They have been active volunteers ever since.

Her children’s books are published in English and German and are available in 20 states and five countries. A portion of the book profits will support sea turtle conservation programs.
