Flounder and Amberjack seasons close on November 1st

Gulf Shores Fishing News

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Marine Resources Division (MRD) is reminding anglers that the recreational harvest of greater amberjack in state and federal waters will close on November 1, 2024.

Additionally, the recreational and commercial harvest of flounder will be closed from November 1 through November 30 to protect the species during its critical spawning season. The annual closure aims to preserve flounder populations for future generations.

Red snapper season remains open on four-day weekends until the federal harvest limit of 659,654 pounds is met. Gray triggerfish season remains open until December 31, 2024. Information on the Snapper Check system is available at the Outdoor Alabama
website.

Anglers catching species like red snapper, greater amberjack, and gray triggerfish in Alabama are required to report their catch through Alabama’s Snapper Check system.

For more details on Alabama’s saltwater recreational size and creel limits, anglers can visit the Alabama Department of Conservation’s
website or see the document below.

The ADCNR encourages responsible stewardship and sustainable use of the state’s natural resources through its four divisions: Marine Resources, State Lands, State Parks, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
