Power company post of social media for assistance from customers

gulf shores electrical service

Baldwin EMC, one of the largest electrical providers in the coastal region, has asked the clients to help reduce the power load during the winter storm event.  In the past 48 hours the area has experienced a long period of cold temperatures below freezing. The National Weather Service labeled the conditions as "dangerously cold" today.

The electric company placed a post on their social media account requesting the assistance:

"We need your help NOW! The EXTREMELY cold temperatures are putting a tremendous demand on the system . Please make every effort now through tomorrow morning to reduce load. Load can be reduced by turning off all unneeded lights, TVs, etc. and postponing the use of electric appliances such as dishwashers, clothes dryers, and ovens. In addition to conserving, we need you to help us get this important message out by sharing this post. Small reductions by many members can make all the difference.

Our crews worked all day changing out equipment that was literally melting due to the load.

We can’t end this post without thanking every crew who worked all day in this terrible weather, our control center who monitored load and did everything in their power to prevent outages, and every member who prayed for our crews and offered words of encouragement. It’s looking like it’s going to be a long night followed by another hard morning. Your assistance is needed and greatly appreciated!"

Baldwin EMC has an outage center on their website. It was showing some reported locations at the time of publishing this article.
