Gulf Shores area news

In the past two years ALDI has made big investments in the Baldwin County region. Their new grocery store opened in Foley, a regional distribution center was built in Loxley and they bought the Winn-Dixie grocery stores. Now they are seeking 13,000 new employees for the fall season.

ALDI is growing its team of more than 49,000 employees and raising its national average hourly pay. In a press release the chain stated the new national average starting wages for open ALDI store and warehouse positions will be $18 and $23 per hour, respectively, based on market and position.

ALDI also recently instituted new flexible scheduling and 100% paid parental and caregiver leave in response to employee feedback.

According to ALDI, those who join the company early tend to stick around; the grocery retailer found that 7 out of 10 assistant store managers and over 30% of store managers started as sales associates.

Currently there are three ALDI store locations within Baldwin County; Foley, Daphne and Fairhope.

The company is in the process of converting some Winn-Dixie locations throughout the south to better represent the ALDI brand.

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.
