Big Marlin And Big Bucks Highlighted Blue Marlin Grand Championship

A great way to spend a day... fishing or watching

How would you like to get paid tens of thousands of dollars to go fishing? That's exactly what took place within the Blue Marlin Grand Championship this weekend at The Wharf. A vessel name 'Grocery Isle' reeled in a marlin weighing 746.0 lbs. and was paid $83,200.00 for their effort. In total, over $1.8 Million was paid out in prize money to all the fishing teams.


The Blue Marlin Grand Championship is the finale of the acclaimed Gulf Coast Triple Crown Series and each year thousands of spectators gather at The Wharf to see the anglers weigh-in their monstrous catches on thee scales.


This year's winning angler was Donny Rouse onboard 'Grocery Isle' but other teams who placed on the leaderboard were:

  • Easy Trigger, Greg Abrams, 645.80 lbs
  • Cole Play , Dale Cole, 645.60 lbs


In the Heaviest Tuna category the winners were:

  • Nikki Bella, Marc Padgett, 203.20 lbs
  • Lady D, Greg Sfakianos, 175.60 lbs
  • Perseverance, Doug Dyess, 165.00 lbs


The fishing tournament benefits St. Jude Children's Hospital and has raised over $220,000 to date.


Along the Alabama coast there are many fishing tournaments but this is the most prestigious award for the anglers.
