BJ’s Wholesale Club Expands With New Foley Location

Bulk retailer has over 250 locations in US

Gulf Shores business news

Residents in Foley will soon have a new option for bulk shopping as BJ’s Wholesale Club plans to open its second Alabama location in the city. The project was recommended for approval by the Foley Planning Commission, marking a significant step forward for the retail development. The new store will be built on a 14-acre parcel situated east of Alabama 59, providing local shoppers with greater convenience. With this addition, Foley is set to join only a handful of Alabama cities offering access to the nationwide chain.

According to city officials, construction of the new BJ’s Wholesale Club is expected to begin this fall. The proposed site is located along the South Juniper Street Extension, a spot selected for its accessibility and space. The timeline for completion has not been announced, but planners say the timeline points to a late-2025 or early-2026 opening if things go as expected.

This Foley location will become the second BJ’s Wholesale Club store in Alabama. The first Alabama BJ’s opened in late 2023 in the Huntsville area and has since attracted many customers from that region. Currently, the next closest BJ’s location to Foley is in Pensacola, Florida, making this store an important addition for Baldwin County residents and surrounding areas.

City leaders believe the new wholesale club will help meet a growing demand for large-scale retail in Foley. The Planning Commission’s recommendation brings the project closer to reality, although the final stages of approval are still needed. Residents and nearby business owners are expected to watch for updates as the development progresses and construction crews prepare to break ground later in the year.

Officials say people seeking more details on the project can contact Guy Busby at 251-504-3759. For Foley, the arrival of BJ’s is expected to expand shopping opportunities and bring new jobs and economic growth to the area.
