Few changes and a run-off in local elections

Election results are in for the municipal races from Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Foley, marking the conclusion of the elections for local mayoral and city council seats. After a full day at the polls, residents in all three cities have selected their community leaders for the coming four-year term. 


The newly elected officials—determined in closely watched contests and several decisive victories—will take office November 3 for the 2025 election, shaping the future direction of the Gulf Coast's local governments for the next 4 years.

Gulf Shores City Elections

Mayor

Ray S. Moore, Jr. - 817 (18.81%)

Angie Swiger - 1016 (23.39%)


Council, Place No. 1

Tony Kennon (I) - 1897 (𝟱9.64%) ✔

Jeffrey M. Boyd - 1284 (40.36%)

Tom Conerly - 998 (32.38%)

Jack Robertson - 2084 (67.62%) ✔


City Council Place #2

Annette Mitchell (I) - 1441 (46.66%)

Ginger Harrelson - 1647 (53.34%) ✔


City Council Place #3

Jerry Johnson (I) - 2053 (67.64%) ✔

Jay Neese - 982 (32.36%)


City Council Place #5

JoJo McCarron - 1463 (48.09%)

Robert Stuart II - 1579 (51.91%) ✔



Foley City Elections ( Mayor Hellmich was unopposed)


Unofficial results following the closing of city polls were:

In District 1, incumbent Wayne Trawick defeated challenger Barry Hughes. Trawick 220 votes. Hughes received 95.

In District 2 challenger Timothy “Tim” Lower defeated incumbent Vera Quaites and fellow challenger Donald Barnett. Lower received 240 votes. Quaites received 166. Barnett received 8.

In District 4, Larry Engel defeated Phillip Hinesley. Engel received 98 votes.  Hinesley received 42. District 4 incumbent Rick Blackwell did not run for re-election.

In District 5, incumbent Charles Ebert III defeated challenger Derrick Perdue. Ebert received 234 votes. Perdue received 75.


**Roddy Burkle was the only candidate remaining in the race for the District 3 seat and was elected without opposition. Incumbent District 3 Councilman Richard “Dick” Dayton died on Thursday, Aug. 21.

The municipal elections for Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Foley take place today, Tuesday, August 26, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Residents will vote on mayoral and city council positions across the three cities, with polling locations designated in each community.
