City of Gulf Shores Considers New Crosswalk on Hwy. 59

Crosswalk and other items on City Council Agenda

Due to citizen requests, the Gulf Shores City Council will consider a proposal from Kadre Engineering to design a pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection of State Route 59 and 12th Avenue.
Included in the $30,720 proposal are:
- Preparation of right-of-way & topographic survey
- Preparation of traffic signal design modifications
- ALDOT permitting
- Construction plans

The council will meet in a work session on Sept. 16 in council chambers at city hall starting at 4 p.m.
During the meeting, the council will also discuss:
- Two liquor licenses include one for Duck’s Diner in the old Hazel’s Nook location and one for Legendary Marine on the Intracoastal Waterway west of the State Route 59 bridge.
- Following state guidelines and declare hearing aids other hearing devices as tax-exempt in the city.
- Amending the city ordinance on garbage, trash, junk and weeds to allow for the removal of dead trees on “natural lots.”
- Accepting a Spirit of the Blue grant for the police department to receive 62 combat application tourniquets and 62 tourniquet cases in an amount of $4,611.
