News Staff • Nov 09, 2023

The Coast Guard's Press Release

The Coast Guard medevaced a 30-year-old man Thursday from the vessel Astraea SB approximately nine miles south of Dauphin Island, Alabama.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile watchstanders received a report from the ship of a man experiencing symptoms of labored breathing and high blood pressure.

Watchstanders coordinated the launch of a Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island 45-foot response boat-medium boatcrew. The boatcrew arrived on scene but due to safety concerns, was unable to conduct the transfer. Watchstanders then launched a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew to conduct the medevac.

The aircrew arrived on scene, hoisted the man aboard the helicopter and transported him to Mobile International Airport and transferred him to emergency medical services personnel.
