The City of Gulf Shores has announced a series of closures and schedule modifications in observance of Veterans Day, a day dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of our nation's veterans.

While the Gulf Shores Police Department, Gulf Shores Fire Rescue, and other critical emergency services will maintain regular operations to ensure the community's safety and health, several other city facilities will observe the holiday with changes to their regular hours.

The administrative offices for the City of Gulf Shores will be closed on Friday, November 10. Citizens can expect the resumption of regular activities on Monday, November 13, starting at 8 a.m.

In line with the closures, the Gulf Shores Public Library will also take a brief hiatus on Friday, November 10, and will reopen for its usual services on Monday, November 13.

For those planning a visit to the Gulf Shores Museum, please note that it will not be accessible on both Friday, November 10, and Saturday, November 11. The museum is scheduled to welcome visitors again on Tuesday, November 14, with its regular hours.

The David L. Bodenhamer Recreation Center will, however, keep its doors open on Veterans Day from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., allowing residents to maintain their fitness and recreational routines.

Tennis enthusiasts should be aware that the George C. Meyer Tennis Center will not be operational on Friday, November 10, and Saturday, November 11. Nevertheless, the courts will still be open for public use, with normal operations resuming on Monday, November 13.

Pickleball courts at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex will also be available to the public throughout the Veterans Day period.

The Cultural Center will join the list of facilities taking a pause, closing on Friday, November 10, and reopening on Monday, November 13, with its standard operating hours.

Retail operations at the City Store will be suspended on both Friday, November 10, and Saturday, November 11. The store will resume regular business hours on Monday, November 13.

In preparation for the holiday, all debris pick-up will be conducted by Thursday, November 9. Residents are advised to place their debris out one day before their regularly scheduled pick-up day. For any queries regarding this service, the Public Works Department is available at 251-968-1156.

For additional information or general inquiries, City Hall can be contacted at 251-968-2425.

The City of Gulf Shores also encourages residents to stay informed of important updates and alerts by signing up for “Notify Me” email or text notifications through the City’s official website at
www.gulfshoresal.gov.

As the city honors the brave individuals who have served the nation, these adjustments ensure that the spirit of Veterans Day is observed while maintaining essential services for the community.

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.
