City Service closures for Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Foley

City of Gulf Shores closures

City offices in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Foley, will be closed on Thursday, July 4th, in observance of Independence Day. Essential services such as police, fire, and emergency services will remain operational. Details of each city’s schedule can be found below.


City of Gulf Shores Announces Closures in Honor of Independence Day


Gulf Shores, Ala. – In honor of Independence Day, the City of Gulf Shores will have the following facility closures and changes to regular hours of operations: 


  • Police, fire, and other emergency services will remain open to ensure public safety and health. 
  • Administrative offices for the City of Gulf Shores will be closed on Thursday, July 4. 
  • Regular operations will resume on Friday, July 5, at 8 a.m.
  • The Thomas B. Norton Public Library will be closed on Thursday, July 4. Regular operations will resume on Friday, July 5.
  • The Gulf Shores Museum will be closed on Thursday, July 4. Regular operation hours will resume on Friday, July 5. 
  • The Bodenhamer Recreation Center will be open from 5:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 4. No fitness classes will be held at the Bodenhamer Recreation Center on July 4. Regular operations resume on Friday, July 5. 
  • The Cultural Center will be closed Thursday, July 4. Regular operations will resume on Friday, July 5.
  • The George C. Meyer Tennis Center will be closed on Thursday, July 4. Courts will be open and available for public use. Regular operation hours will resume on Friday, July 5.
  • The pickleball courts at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex will remain open and available for public use. 
  • The City Store will be closed on Thursday, July 4. Regular operations will resume on Friday, July 5.
  • Republic Services Garbage and Recycling Services will run as scheduled. Yard debris/bulky pickup scheduled for Thursday, July 4, will run on Wednesday, July 3 Instead.



City of Orange Beach Fourth of July Holiday Schedule


In observance of Independence Day, non-essential city of Orange Beach offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4th. Offices will open for normal hours on Friday, July 5th. 


Trash and recycling will not be affected. All routes will run as normal. 


City of Foley July 4th Holiday Schedule


  • Foley city offices will be closed July 4 and 5 for the Independence Day holidays.
  • The Foley Railroad Museum, Model Train Exhibit and Holmes Medical Museum will be closed July 4. The Railroad Museum and Holmes Medical Museum will reopen at regular hours on July 5 and be open Saturday, July 6. The model train exhibit will reopen Saturday, July 6.
  • The Foley Public Library will be closed July 4 and 5. The library will reopen Saturday, July 6.
  • The Nature Center at the Graham Creek Nature Preserve will close Thursday, July 4 and reopen Monday, July 8. The Graham Creek Nature Preserve will remain open seven days a week during daylight hours.
  • The Foley Senior Center will close July 4 and reopen July 8. The dance usually scheduled for Saturday nights will not be held that weekend.
  • Garbage and recyclable collection schedules will be altered for the holiday.
  • Collections usually scheduled for July 4 will be picked up Tuesday, July 2. Collections scheduled for Friday, July 5 will be picked up Wednesday, July 3.
  • The collection of limbs, yard wastes and bulk debris will resume Monday, July 8. Crews will begin collection on routes regularly scheduled for collection that day and in areas where yard wastes would have been picked up on Wednesday, July 3.
  • Garbage collection will take priority for pickups followed by recyclables until the collections are completed and up to date. Yard waste routes could be delayed for several days until all pickups are completed.



As you celebrate Independence Day, please remember:
 


  • The sale or use of fireworks within the corporate limits or police jurisdiction of the city is strictly prohibited.
  • Cooking with propane and or charcoal on decks, under, or within 10 feet of multifamily dwellings or combustible structures is prohibited. 
  • Open fires on the beach or in public areas are prohibited.

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.

It’s Saturday morning, the second day of the 6A Section 1 Track Meet at Saraland High School. Coach Brewer has piloted the Dolphins bus to this place several times this season, but today a thick, milky fog has engulfed the panorama, limiting the vision of what’s ahead, save for head coach Jason Hill. He’s studied today’s upcoming events and is hopeful for the upset.

A decorated urn containing human ashes washed up on Gulf Shores beach this past week, starting a mystery that local police have now solved. The container was discovered by people walking along the shore on West Beach on April 17. The urn had no name or identification on the outside.
