Lower Alabama Young Professionals (LAYP) will host the 4th Annual Barks, Bags, & Bushwackers cornhole tournament and social at the Flora-Bama Yacht Club. The event takes place on Saturday, September 28th, from 11am to 1pm.

This event will raise funds for Service Dogs Alabama, a nonprofit providing medical and psychiatric service dogs to children, adults, and veterans with disabilities. Last year, the event raised $1,000 for the organization.

LAYP Chairman Cory Skipper expressed excitement about combining community outreach with fun. “Philanthropy is at the heart of what we do,” Skipper said, highlighting the group’s mission to connect, engage, and develop.

The tournament is open to participants aged 21 and up. Teams of two can join for $40 to compete for cash and prizes, while casual players can participate for $15 and network with others.

Each attendee will receive a free Bushwacker, and tickets can be purchased online at

Proceeds from this fun event will benefit Service Dogs Alabama, continuing LAYP’s commitment to supporting meaningful causes in the community.

Tracking fish with sonar has been available to the public since 1948, when the famous Furuno brothers introduced the product in their native Japan. A 'salty' charter captain might add that it was Lowrance that brought it to the U.S. fishing market. But whomever you credit, NOAA has now combined it with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide better chart mapping and even fish count locations of fish in the gulf. The results could impact local fishing seasons in the future.
