Gulf Shores Dolphins Football Playoff Win

Gulf Shores, AL. — (GSN) — The Gulf Shores High School Dolphins are still rolling, keeping their perfect season alive and kicking off the postseason in style. While it’s hard not to feel a little sympathy for the Ramsay families who made the long trip down from Birmingham only to watch their team run into a buzzsaw, at least they have the silver lining of getting to enjoy a beautiful day at the beach before heading back home.
The Gulf Shores High School Dolphins football team kept their unblemished season alive, securing a commanding 33-7 victory over the Ramsay Rams in the first round of the AHSAA Class 5A state playoffs at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium.
Entering the postseason following a 10-0 undefeated regular season, the top-seeded Dolphins extended their record to 11-0. The matchup held added significance as a rematch of the 2023 Class 5A state championship game, in which Gulf Shores earned its first state title with a victory over Ramsay. Reaffirming their dominance, the Dolphins controlled the line of scrimmage, stifled Ramsay's offense, and scored across all phases of the game.
The Dolphins' execution across the board highlights the core contributors driving their undefeated campaign:
- Passing Leader: Quarterback Major Hudspeth commands the Dolphins' passing attack, efficiently distributing screens and downfield throws to dynamic targets like senior wide receiver Carter Davis.
- Rushing Leader: Senior running back Janoy Ferguson leads Gulf Shores on the ground, pacing the backfield with an average of 69.3 rushing yards per game and 11 rushing touchdowns on the season.
- Sacks Leader: Junior nose guard Gabriel Ervin leads the Dolphins' defensive front with 9.0 sacks, anchoring a unit that ranks as the top-rated defense in Class 5A.
Under Head Coach Mark Hudspeth, the program operates on a foundation of selflessness and team unity. Coach Hudspeth continuously preaches the concept of TEAM—instilling in players the imperative of operating collectively for a common good rather than individual accolades.
That culture has stood firm regardless of environment. Whether training and competing in older facilities during previous campaigns or adapting to the newly opened 287,000-square-foot Gulf Shores High School campus and athletic complex, Coach Hudspeth and his squad have consistently delivered championship-caliber results year after year.
The Dolphins' success is backed by immense community spirit throughout South Baldwin County. Local support has been strong at every turn—from packed crowds at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium and local business partnerships to backing from the Gulf Shores City Council and the Band Parent Association.
Looking ahead, Gulf Shores advances to the second round of the AHSAA Class 5A playoffs, where they are scheduled to host McAdory, who earned a 55-48 first-round victory over Russell County.
