Beach Battles Under Thursday Night Lights

Gulf Shores, Ala. — (GSN) — High school football fans across South Baldwin County witnessed an unconventional Thursday night of football, as both the Gulf Shores High School Dolphins and the Orange Beach High School Makos shifted their games up from Friday to avoid anticipated severe weather along the Gulf Coast.
LAST NIGHT'S RESULTS & PROGRAM RISE
- Gulf Shores High School Dolphins: The Dolphins delivered a statement performance last night, securing a dominant 34-0 shutout victory on the road against Baldwin County High School. The win reflects a dramatic year-over-year transformation for the program, which has established itself as an elite contender on the coast. Driving this athletic surge is Gulf Shores’ brand-new $137 million high school campus. Built with world-class facilities, the campus features an 18,000-square-foot field house, an indoor weight room, a covered 110-yard practice pavilion for year-round training, two competition gymnasiums, and advanced sports medicine spaces. Beyond athletics, the campus boasts cutting-edge academic academy labs for engineering, biomedical sciences, marine biology, culinary arts, and aviation.
- Orange Beach High School Makos: Facing a tough away conference matchup last night, the Makos went toe-to-toe with #1 ranked Williamson, ultimately falling by a score of 42-0. Despite the loss, Orange Beach's rapid improvement over the past year highlights one of the most impressive turnarounds in coastal Alabama high school football since the school first fielded athletic teams in 2020. A major catalyst behind the Makos' growth is Orange Beach City Schools' new state-of-the-art athletic complex. The complex includes the 3,500-seat Mako Stadium with LED lighting and a Jumbotron, a 1,200-seat competition gymnasium, a covered 60-yard turf practice pavilion, and a two-story Kinesiology & Exercise Science fieldhouse equipped with real-time velocity tracking tech, hydrotherapy pools, and film study theaters.
SOUTH BALDWIN SCHOOLS STAND OUT IN ALABAMA'S GULF REGION
The investments in infrastructure, storm-resilient facilities, and top-tier academic and athletic resources have elevated both Gulf Shores and Orange Beach into standout institutions across Alabama's gulf region. By combining collegiate-level training facilities with innovative learning environments, South Baldwin County schools are raising the standard for academic and athletic excellence on the coast.
Looking ahead to their next matchups, the Gulf Shores Dolphins will return home to host the Elberta High Warriors on October 8, looking to keep their momentum rolling in front of the home crowd. Meanwhile, the Orange Beach Makos will also return to their home turf on where they will look to bounce back and defend home field against Satsuma.
