Flora-Bama USA Todays Best Beach Bar

The iconic Flora-Bama has been nominated for USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards for Best Beach Bar. This selection, made by a panel of experts, puts the legendary spot in the national spotlight, with the ultimate winner determined by public votes.

The nomination reinforces Flora-Bama's reputation as a world-famous, must-visit destination. Sitting right on the Florida-Alabama state line, the honky-tonk is celebrated for its unforgettable live music, laid-back coastal vibes, and one-of-a-kind atmosphere.

A History of National Recognition

The recognition from USA Today is the latest in a long line of accolades for the institution, which first opened its doors in 1964. Previously, the Flora-Bama Lounge placed second in the USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice Awards for Best Beach Bar in 2025 and was included in USA Today’s 2024 Bars of the Year list. The bar has also been named the Best Beach Bar in the South by Southern Living and received recognition from publications like Playboy and Rolling Stone.

A History of Famous Events

The bar hosts world-renowned annual events such as Bulls on the Beach, a live rodeo which takes place each September. Other events include the Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival and the annual Santa Drop. Then there is one of the most famous events in the country, Interstate Mullet Toss. Participants throw a mullet across the state line while thousands of fans watch and celebrate their toss.

Live Music

The bar has a legendary connection to country music, serving as a muse for artists like Kenny Chesney, who released a hit song named "Flora-Bama" in 2014 and performed a free concert there to celebrate the bar's 50th year. Other famous musicians who have played at the venue include Jimmy Buffett, who wrote released the song "Bama Breeze". Jason Aldean, Ella Langley, Luke Combs, Riley Green and even comedian Ron White have graced the stages.

The venue's commitment to music is further highlighted by the Frank Brown Songwriters Festival, created in 1984 and named after the bar's night watchman, which annually draws hundreds of new writers and seasoned musicians, including Grammy winners and Hall of Famers.

The Contest

The contest relies on support from the public, and fans—dubbed the "Flora-Bama Bamily"—are urged to help the bar take the top spot. Every vote helps bring the bar closer to earning the title of Best Beach Bar. Fans can vote daily in the contest.
