Orange Beach, Ala. — (GSN) — A patriotic event for runners and walkers has opened their registration site. The Flora-Bama is preparing to celebrate America in a big way. The famous landmark on the Florida-Alabama state line is hosting its 6th Annual Freedom Run on Independence Day. The event features a 4-mile run and walk, plus a 1-mile fun run for those seeking a shorter distance. A portion of the proceeds from the race will benefit the On Point 1-1 Foundation, which supports U.S. Army Rangers and their families.

The race is set for Saturday, July 4th, with both events starting at 8:00 AM. Runners and walkers are encouraged to arrive in their most patriotic outfits to celebrate 250 years of American history. Packet pickup will be available the day before the race, on Friday, July 3rd, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM inside the Flora-Bama, just past the gift shop. Day-of pickup will also be available in the tent on Saturday, July 4th, from 6:00 AM to 7:30 AM. Early pickup is strongly encouraged to avoid long lines.

Age-group categories for the 4-mile run and walk include divisions for participants ages 14 and under, 15–19, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69, 70–79, and 80 and older. First-place awards will be given to both male and female finishers in every age group for the run and the walk. Special recognition plaques and sunglasses, sponsored by Goodr, will also be awarded to the Overall Male and Overall Female finishers in both the run and the walk.

The first 500 participants to cross the finish line in the 4-mile event will receive a finisher medal. All participants in the 1-mile fun run are guaranteed a finisher medal. Race shirts are guaranteed for the first 600 registered participants. Those who register and can still select a shirt size during online registration can rest assured that their size is still in stock.

After the race, participants are invited to a post-race party in the tent at the Flora-Bama. The celebration will feature live music, a breakfast buffet, and complimentary draft beer for participants 21 and older. Non-alcoholic drinks will be available for those under 21. The party begins immediately after the race.

The On Point 1-1 Foundation, which benefits from this event, promotes and preserves the heritage and service of U.S. Army Rangers. The organization raises funds to support Rangers and their families through scholarships, short-term financial aid, specialty housing for disabled Rangers, transition programs to civilian life, PTSD care, and suicide-prevention programs. Race organizers note that a 7.5% sales tax, as required by Florida law, will be collected on all registrations.
